Top five floor designs of 2012

Those five floor installations are said to be the best ones according to Floor Data website and The Flooring Magazine. Take a look at some familiar projects and a few that we haven’t showcased before from the top names in flooring.

In January, Junckers wood flooring tried something new, by building the catwalk floor for Danish designer Karen Simonsen at the Copenhagen Fashion Week. Her fashion show at Copenhagen Fashion Week was a stunning affair, helped along by Junckers’ luxurious Mountain Silver planks.

A new bar in Shoreditch is creating a buzz with its eccentric drinks menu, strikingly contemporary interior design and its unusual wall and floor tiles. Solus Ceramics was briefed with supplying tiles for a feature wall and floor tiles for a bar surround. The overall aesthetic of the bar was to be theatrically eclectic with features such as velvet drapes, neon and shocking accent colours. At the forefront of tiling fashions,Solus Ceramics was excited to source a number of unusual and unconventional shaped tiles for the bar. Solus Ceramics supplied 12 sq m of angular diamond shaped tiles from the aptly named Diamond range in astunning glossy black, which were fitted to a feature wall of the bar, creating an iconic and elaborate display. The beautiful wall tiles were recently showcased on the front cover of Bar Magazine, which is a testament to the modern aesthetic quality that the unusual tiles evoke.

The international architectural firm PDM chose the Swedish woven vinyl flooring brand Bolon as a key ingredient for its spectacular interior setting at Adidas’ new office premises in Shanghai. Bolon flooring has been used to highlight, create cohesion between the department areas and achieve openness. Adidas and Bolon are no strangers to one another – 7,000 sq m of floor space at the company’s Amsterdam offices are covered by Bolon’s exclusive, woven vinyl flooring.

Waterbourne lacquers were applied to a wood floor in Nicholas Kirkwood’s prestigious London shoe store to create a hardwearingfinish. The floor was designed by Richard Woods Studio and installed and finished by wood flooring and furniture specialists Etloe which consulted interior fit-out company, Snake Skin Jacket, over the most appropriate way to finish the surface. Richard Woods’ ‘wrong wood’ design was screen printed using oil based paints on to plywood strips. The floor received a carefully considered lacquer specification to ensure an adequate level of surface protection and the right look.

As a preferred supplier for AB Hotels, Lano Flooring Solutions was called upon to provide carpet throughout the 194-bedroom Colchester Five Lakes Resort. Working closely with AB Hotelsand Richard Daniels Design (RDD) to develop a suitable flooring scheme, Lano Flooring Solutions manufactured and supplied carpet for guestrooms, corridors and public areas, varying construction and wear quality to provide maximum value from the 5,000 sq m of carpet required. For public areas and corridors, Lano Flooring Solutions manufactured a total of 2,500 sq m of bespoke axminster carpets.

Overall it was a great 2012!Those are just some of the best floor installations out there and we are sure 2013 will be even more innovative and creative than the past year!
